PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Princeton women's ice hockey team couldn't find the back of the net Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island, as they were defeated 4-0 by the Brown Bears. The Tigers tested Brown goaltender Pam Dreyer for 25 shots, but Dreyer was equal to the task all day. The Brown Bears picked up their second shutout of the season, improving their record to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the ECAC.
Kristy Zamora scored a goal and set up the final goal to lead the Bears. Heading into the third stanza down 2-0, the Tigers needed a strong period to overcome the two-goal deficit. Though the Tigers were shorthanded and Kristy Zamora received a beautiful pass from Cassie Turner, just 55 seconds into the third, the Tigers suddenly trailed three goals and had an uphill climb against a strong Brown hockey club.
Melissa Rennison scored two minutes into the contest, for what turned out to be the game winning goal, and the Bears held off the Tigers the rest of the way. The Tigers failed to convert on five power play chances, which was a credit to Brown's strong penalty killing. Princeton goaltender Sarah Ahlquist was replaced at the start of the second period by Megan Van Beusekom, after Brown scored two goals on 7 shots in the first period. Though it was clearly not Ahlquist's fault, the Tigers settled down in the second period and played better defensive hockey, as well as out-shooting Brown 9-8. The Tigers fall to 2-5-1 (2-5-1, ECAC) while Brown improves to 5-1-0. (3-1-0, ECAC). Princeton returns to action on Friday Dec. 1 at St. Cloud State.
