Men's Golf Places Fifth At Rutherford Intercollegiate

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Princeton University men's golf team finished fifth at the Rutherford Intercollegiate this weekend, its final competition before the upcoming NCAA tournament.
The Tigers struggled somewhat in the first round on Friday, shooting a 301 to put them in seventh place among the 14-team field. They rebounded later that day, shooting the second-best second round with a 288. The 13-stroke improvement was the second-best in the field, and the Tigers went into the final round in fourth place.
Princeton dropped one spot in the final round, although its third-round total of 297 was fourth best among the field that day.
The Tigers were led by Judd Pritchard, who shot a 215 (74-70-71) and finished second in the individual competition. Pritchard was only bettered by Matt Abbott, who shot a 212 on his home course, including a final-round 67. James Milam tied for 23rd place with a 224 (79-71-74) while Peter McWhorter tied for 28th place with a 226 (75-75-76). Nat Hoopes tied for 32nd with a 227 (73-75-79) and Cassidy Traub rounded out the team witha 45th-place 231 (83-72-76).
Princeton, the 2000 Ivy League champions, are off until the NCAA regionals, which begin on Thursday, March 18. The participants and seedings will be announced on May 9, 2000 at 10 a.m.
