Men's Fall Tennis Schedule Begins Play

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton University men's tennis team started things off on the right foot as they began fall play at the Princeton Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Kyle Kliegerman (New York, N.Y.), Hendrik Chasse (Singapore) and Judson Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) all advance to the quarterfinals being held tomorrow. Kliegerman and Chasse will have to play against each other to make it to the semis, while Williams draws Eric Sobotka from Penn.
Kliegerman beat Robert Pringle of Penn (6-3, 6-3) and Joey Muscatiello of Rutgers (6-1, 6-1). Chasse advanced with victories over Columbia's Mickey Kaplan (6-3, 6-3) and Alex Popescu (6-5 (7-5), 6-4). Williams beat Kevin Bielen of Rutgers (6-1, 6-2) and Temple's Gaurav Kumar (6-2, 6-3).
In doubles, Nick Benjamin (Princeton Jct., N.J.) and Tim Kofol (Bronxville, N.Y.) advance to the quarterfinals by beating Tharso Bossolani and Darryl Edwards of Temple (8-1). They will face Princeton teammates John Portlock (Wilton, Conn.) and Trevor Smith (Hilton Head, S.C.). Portlock and Smith beat Ryan Hardwood and Robert Pringle of Penn (8-7 (5)). The third and final doubles combination to make the quarters is Kliegerman and Williams. They earned a first round victory over Mickey Kaplan and Mark Bhupathi of Columbia.
To start the tournament, Kliegerman was seeded first in singles and held second seed with Williams in doubles. Williams was seeded fifth in singles. Portlock and Smith started the day seeded fourth in doubles, while Smith was eliminated from the first draw in singles after being seeded seventh.
