Field Hockey Places Three On NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad

PRINCETON, NJ - The Princeton field hockey team has placed three players on the 2001 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as was announced on March 1. Claire Miller (So., Scarsdale, N.Y.) was named to the team for the second-straight year, while Jen Elliott (Fr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Zehra Nizami (Jr., Hong Kong) are first time honorees.
To be named to the National Academic Squad a player must have attained a minimum overall GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2001-02 academic year and be a starter or key reserve for their team.
Miller finished fourth on the team in scoring with 21 points (3g, 15a) and was named a 2001 STX/NFHCA Division I All-America. A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and a first-team Mid-Atlantic All-America, Miller finished the season tied for third in the nation in assists and second in the country in assists per game.
Elliott stepped up and played every minute of every game at defense for the Tigers. She was named a second-team Regional All-America in the fall.
Nizami saw action in six games this year, playing 112:52 minutes in the cage for Princeton. She posted a .619 goals-against average for the season.
Princeton's (17-3) season came to a close with a 4-2 loss to Michigan, the eventual national champion, in the opening game of the Final Four.
