Princeton, N.J. - Princeton will look to make it 10 in a row against Pennsylvania when the two teams meet on the lacrosse field at Villanova Stadium. The Tigers are entering the home stretch of their regular season schedule with the first of three straight road games. Princeton and Penn square off for the 30th time in program history this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
The Tigers lead the all-time series 14-12-3, but have dominated of late. Princeton had won nine straight versus the Quakers and is 14-2 against its Ivy foe under head coach Chris Sailer. This year's meeting features a Princeton squad with an 8-4 overall mark and a 3-1 Ivy record. Penn is 6-8, 2-3 Ivy.
Princeton comes off a 12-2 win against Harvard and has its defense clicking on all cylinders. In the month of April, the Tigers are allowing an average of five goals per game, holding both the Crimson and No. 13 Cornell to two goals apiece. The statistics show Princeton's dominance with 76 more caused turnovers than its opponents. The Tigers are averaging 10.64 goals per game this year and have 33 more assists than the opposition. They have more ground balls, more draw controls and less turnovers and are ranked No. 7 in this week's IWLCA poll.
Junior Theresa Sherry leads the team in scoring with 30 goals and four assists, senior Alex Fiore leads in ground balls with 47. Senior Rachael Becker has a team-high 40 caused turnovers while sophomore Elizabeth Pillion leads the team in draw controls with 20.
The Tigers have four games remaining on the regular season schedule and Wednesday's contest is not only the first of three straight away from home, it is also the first of three Ivy games left for Princeton. The Tigers are still in contention for the Ivy title and sit one game back of Dartmouth (Saturday's opponent). Penn has been eliminated from the Ivy race this season.
