Pauly and Szymanski Honored By NJCBA/Ivy League

Princeton, N.J. - Princeton relief pitcher Thomas Pauly and outfielder B.J. Szymanski were today named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association's Pitcher and Player of the Week as well as the Ivy League's Pitcher and Rookie of the Week. Pauly recorded two wins and a save in three appearances while Szymanski went 11 for 23, scored 10 runs and had eight RBIs to help lift the Tigers to an overall record of 10-15 and 3-1 in the Ivy League.
Pauly made his first appearance on Wednesday against Rider. He pitched the final three innings of a 10-2 Princeton win and earned his first save of the season. In the game he allowed two hits and struck out five. He then came on in the eighth inning against Brown and pitched to scoreless innings to claim his second win of the season. The next day, Pauly again entered a game in relief and ended up throwing six innings as the scheduled seven-inning game went to 11 innings when a Princeton homer won the game. In all, Pauly worked 11 innings, allowing eight hits and one earned run. He also struck out a total of 14 batters.
Szymanski had a superb offensive week recording hits and runs in all five Tiger games. His totals at the end of the week were 11 for 23 with eight RBIs. He also scored 10 runs, hit three doubles and stole three bases. His strongest RBI output came against Rider and the second game against Brown in which he posted three RBIs. The centerfielder wrapped up the weekend with a 5 for 6 performance against Yale in which he scored three runs.
Princeton is set to return to the field tomorrow afternoon at home against Rutgers, weather permitting. After that, they visit Harvard and Dartmouth over the weekend.
