Box Score
The Princeton women's volleyball team entered the fifth game of Saturday's match knowing it was one bad effort away from digging itself a very deep hole in the Ivy League race. Instead, a brilliant effort by its senior class helped give Princeton control of its own destiny.
The Tigers, who led 2-0 before watching a Crimson rally force a fifth game, jumped out to a big lead in the fifth game and held on to a 15-8 win to clinch the match. It was a team effort in the fifth game, led by seniors Ashley Weber and Alex Brown. Weber ignited the quick start with a run on her serve, and Brown put the match away with a solo block.
"Going into the fifth game, we knew as long as we controlled the play on our own side of the net, we would be fine," Weber said. "This is huge for us, and it sets a precedent for the rest of the season. I think it was the biggest match of our season." Princeton ended the match with onr more kill (77-76), one more assist (73-72) and one more dig (74-73) than the Crimson, which entered the match as the only unbeaten team in league play. Brown led all players with 19 kills and had a .417 attack percentage, while Weber recorded 17 kills and hit .412. Outside hitters Lauren Grumet and Lauren Loban combined for 34 kills, while Jenny Senske recorded a match-best 68 assists.
Katie Turley-Molony led Harvard with 20 kills, while Kaego Ogbechie had 16 kills.
Princeton, Harvard and Cornell all have one loss in league play now, and the Tigers will travel to Cornell next Friday for another key league match.
The win is No. 497 for head coach Glenn Nelson, who is seeking to become the third coach in Princeton history to win 500 games.
