In an effort to help victims of the Asian tsunami, the Princeton University Athletic Department will offer free admission to its Monday, Jan. 24, men's basketball game between the Tigers and Haverford College to fans who make a disaster relief donation of $10 or more. Contributors will also receive a free snack from the concession stand.
The offer is only available on game night at Jadwin Gym.
"This is an incredibly supportive community, one that is always ready to help when the need arises," says Princeton Director of Athletics Gary Walters. "We have all been moved by the images coming from Asia, and we need to do anything we can to help those who were devastated by this disaster rebuild their countries and their lives."
Donations will be collected at the game by representatives from Princeton Tsunami Relief, a coalition of Princeton student organizations. All funds will go to the International Rescue Committee and CARE USA, and the groups will use the donations to help provide food, water-purification, medical supplies, shelter materials and other emergency supplies in the affected areas.
Haverford will be Princeton's final opponent before the team begins Ivy League play, and the Tigers are 8-5 heading into the game. Tip-off for the Princeton-Haverford game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Jadwin Gymnasium on the Princeton campus.
