Columbus, Ohio - No. 10 Ohio State scored on two of its three shots in the third period to pull out a 2-1 win over the ninth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team on Saturday night at the OSU Ice Arena. After two scoreless periods the Buckeyes took a 2-0 lead before sophomore Brittany Salmon scored an extra-attacker goal in the game's final minute.
Princeton falls to 3-2-1 on the season with the loss and the split of its weekend at Ohio State. The game was scoreless through two periods with Princeton holding a 15-7 shot edge in the opening period and Ohio State holding a 13-8 edge in the second.
Shelby Aldous opened the scoring in the game with her fourth goal of the season at 7:53 of the third period. Hayley Klassen assisted on the goal. The goal came on Ohio State's first shot of the period after Princeton had taken the first nine shots in the stanza.
Princeton pulled goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel with 2:56 remaining and Buckeye skater Jana Harrigan scored into the open net to make the score 2-0. Princeton added a goal with 17 seconds remaining, but Harrigan's goal stood as the game winner for Ohio State.
Princeton's goal came from Salmon and was her second in as many nights. Senior Heather Jackson and junior Kim Pearce assisted on the goal.
Princeton outshot Ohio State 35-23 in the game. OSU goaltender Liana Bonanno made 34 saves while Gaudiel blocked 21 shots.
Princeton is back in action next Friday at 7 p.m. when Clarkson visits Baker Rink. The game is the first of 10-straight games at home for Princeton.
