Men's Soccer Hosts Columbia, Looks to Move Above .500 in Ivy Play

Thanks to some bad weather in October, the Princeton men's soccer team has its final two games of the 2005 season at home. The Tigers hope to take advantage of that schedule beginning Tuesday when Columbia visits Lourie-Love Field for a 7 p.m. game.
Princeton (5-7-3, 2-2-1 Ivy) has wins over Cornell and Penn in its last two Ivy games and has a chance, with wins over Columbia and Yale on Saturday, to finish as high as third place in the league standings. Besides its first Ivy win in 2005, Columbia (3-11-1, 0-5 Ivy) will be looking to end an eight-game winless streak that dates back to September.
The Tigers improved to 2-2-1 in league play with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Penn Saturday night. Princeton trailed 1-0 late in the second half but scored twice in the final 10 minutes, with the game winner coming from Darren Spicer with 4:25 left. The win extended Princeton's unbeaten streak against the Quakers to 20 consecutive seasons.
Columbia fell to Harvard by a 1-0 score in New York on Saturday. The Lions have scored just one goal in five Ivy games and just nine goals in 15 games overall this season.
Princeton's win over Columbia last season was the Tigers' first over the Lions since the 1993 season and the first in the regular season against Columbia since 1989. Spicer scored late in the second half to give Princeton the victory.
With two wins to end the season, Princeton can finish with 13 points and a 4-2-1 record in league play, which would tie Yale for third place behind Dartmouth and Brown. Yale can still earn a share of the Ivy title by defeating Princeton on Saturday if Dartmouth and Brown play to a tie in an Ivy title showdown this weekend.
Tuesday night's game against Columbia was originally scheduled for Oct. 15, but the game was postponed due to unplayable field conditions due to the heavy rains in the area in October.
