PRINCETON, N.J. - Pitchers Erin Snyder and Kristen Schaus earned recognition by the Ivy League today, after they combined to lead the Princeton softball team to a 4-1 record last week. Snyder was named Pitcher of the Week and recorded her sixth accolade of the season, while Schaus reeled in her second Rookie of the Week honor.
Snyder (15-3) was impressive from both the mound and behind the plate last week. She pitched two shutouts over conference opponents and hit two home runs, while collecting five RBI. In the 3-0 win over Yale she tallied 13 strikeouts in the two-hitter and held Brown to four hits in her ninth shutout of the season. Snyder tied head coach Maureen Barron's mark of nine shutouts from the 1995 season and ranks third in program history. At the plate Snyder went 2-4, rallied two RBI and one run in the 5-3 win over non-conference opponent Seton Hall. In the second game at Yale she was 3-4 with two RBI and one run. Snyder scored one run and recorded an RBI off one hit in the 4-0 win at Brown.
Schaus (13-7) went 2-1 on the week with two Ivy wins and 27 total strikeouts. She posted a two-hitter and earned 10 strikeouts in 8.2 innings against Seton Hall to start the week. Schaus followed with a one-hitter in the four-run shutout over Yale, where she fanned seven batters. Schaus allowed six hits and caught 10 batters at the plate in the 7-3 win at Brown to complete the weekend sweep of conference opponents. Schaus needs just four strikeouts to surpass teammate Erin Snyder's rookie record of 199 strikeouts and has recorded six shutouts this season, including four in the Ivies. Princeton hosts St. Joseph's in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m., today, at the Class of 1895 Field.
