PRINCETON - With the start of Princeton's baseball season six weeks away, Princeton senior starting pitcher Erik Stiller was selected by Baseball America as a member of its preseason all-conference team and by Collegiate Baseball as its projected league Pitcher of the Year.
Stiller made nine and posted a 6-2 record last season with a 2.98 ERA. After a loss and a non-decision, Stiller won six-straight starts through the middle of the season. He allowed 55 hits and 18 earned runs in 54.1 innings pitched, walking 11 batters and striking out 49. He was the New Jersey College Baseball Association's Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-Ivy selection.
Stiller was the only member of the preseason team from a Gehrig Division team as all the other members of the team represented the Rolfe Division.
The magazine picked Princeton to win the Gehrig Division title for the 10th time in 11 years, but gave Harvard the preseason nod for league champion. The editors also selected junior pitcher Wills Sweney as the league's top prospect for the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.
The editors of Collegiate Baseball also mentioned Princeton seniors Andrew Salini and Zach Wendkos, and junior Gavin Fabian on its players to watch list. The magazine picked Cornell to repeat as Gehrig Division champions and Harvard to win the Rolfe Division.
The Princeton baseball season kicks off on Friday, March 3, at The Citadel.
