Women's Cross Country Ranked Seventh Nationally
October 03, 2006 | Women's Cross Country
Fresh off another win this past Friday, its third in as many meets this season, the Princeton women's cross country team is now ranked No. 7 nationally in the latest USTFCCCA poll released Tuesday.
Princeton, which was ranked No. 13 last week, moved up six spots after its win at Lehigh's Paul Short Run on Friday. The Tigers were first among 35 teams at the meet, edging then No. 10 Wisconsin by one point and also defeating nationally-ranked Tennessee. Senior Mia Swenson finished fourth overall individually, and the Tigers had four runners in the top 15.
The Tigers are the only Ivy League school in the USTFCCCA top 30. Stanford received all 13 first-place votes and leads the poll. Michigan, Colorado, Arkansas, N.C. State and Brigham Young follow the Cardinal, while Iowa, UC Santa Barbara and Wisconsin complete the top 10 behind Princeton.
Princeton has won all three of its meets this season. The Tigers defeated Iona, Manhattan, Rutgers and Villanova to win their own invitational Sept. 9 and then defeated Harvard and Yale in a tri-meet Sept. 22.
Head coach Peter Farrell's team will participate in the Pre-National meet in two weeks in Terre Haute, Ind., sight of the NCAA championship meet this November.
The voting panel for the Division I women's poll consists of nine elected regional representatives and four at-large members of the USTFCCCA. The rankings are compiled by Jesse Rosen of Milwaukee, Wis.
