Six Women's Soccer Tigers Earn All-Ivy Honors, Four on First Team
November 13, 2008 | Women's Soccer
Not so coincidentally, 2004 was also the last time Princeton advanced to the NCAA tournament, which it has again in 2008.
Three of the four first-teamers have never before received All-Ivy honors, including senior midfielders Sarah Peteraf and Lisa Chinn and sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Pont, who is in her first year as Princeton's starter.
Peteraf's 12 goals during the regular season co-led the league with Ivy Player of the Year Sophie Reiser from Columbia, but Peteraf led the Ivy in goals per game (0.75) and game-winning goals (seven). Peteraf also had two overtime game-winners, including a key victory at Columbia, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District II second-team honoree.
Pont had a league-best goals-against average of 0.45 and a save percentage of .875, good for second in the league. Both ranked 10th in all of Division I through the end of the regular season.
Chinn had the honor of scoring the game-winning goal in the first game at Roberts Stadium this fall, her only goal of the season to go along with three assists.
Senior defender Taylor Numann made her annual All-Ivy appearance once again, returning to the first-team honor, which she had in 2006, after a second-team pick in 2007. Numann is the only Tiger to start every game of her career, 65 in all.
Midfielder Jen Om made it a senior sweep for All-Ivy recognition as she gained a spot on the second team. Om had three assists during the regular season.
Junior defender Melissa Seitz made it a sweep for Princeton's tri-captains along with Om and Chinn, starting all 16 games and matching Numann as the only Princeton players to be on the field for every one of the team's 1,519 minutes during the regular season.
Princeton received the most first-team honors of any school, taking four of the 11 spots, and extended its streak of receiving at least one first-team All-Ivy honoree to 10 seasons.
