Volleyball Looks To Move Forward In League During Home Dig Pink Weekend
October 22, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
The women's volleyball team is still looking for its first win streak of the season, and this weekend would be the perfect time to get it. Not only will Princeton be hosting its first full Ivy League weekend with matches against Columbia (Friday, 7) and Cornell (Saturday, 4), but the Tigers will be supporting the fight against breast cancer by hosting a Dig Pink Weekend.
Princeton is 4-12 on the season, but has won two of its last three and is one match below the .500 mark in Ivy League play. The Tigers were one point away from riding into the weekend on a three-match win streak, but they ended falling 3-2 at Harvard last Friday night. Regardless, Princeton has won two of its last three on the road and will look for back-to-back wins when Columbia arrives at Dillon Gym Friday night. The Tigers have been led by both youth and experience recently; senior Taylor Carroll has played her best volleyball of the season recently to join fellow senior co-captain Sheena Donohue, while freshmen Lydia Rudnick and Molly Bagshaw have both had strong outings in Ivy League play.
Both Cornell and Columbia are with Princeton in the middle of the Ivy League pack. The Lions are 11-7 overall, 2-3 in the Ivy League, and are led by Megan Gaughn, who ranks second in the league with 4.12 kills per game. Cornell, which plays Ivy League leader Penn Friday night, stands at 13-12, 3-3 in the league, and is getting 7.6 assists per set from Jordan Reeder.

From the Dig Pink web site:
Dig Pink is a Breast Cancer Awareness Rally being held all of October to raise awareness and funds. Every year we want to make a statement by holding hundreds, potentially thousands, of featured High School and College matches across the country to help educate and raise funds to eradicate this terrible disease. Proceeds will go towards doing something significant and identifiable in the fight against Breast Cancer.
