Salazar Edged Out for Ivy Medal, Men's Golf Finishes Fifth
April 26, 2009 | Men's Golf
NORTHFIELD, N.J. -- Princeton sophomore Eric Salazar pushed Dartmouth's Pete Williamson played three playoff holes in their individual quests for an Ivy League golf championship, but the Big Green golfer ultimately won the medal.
Salazar was trying to become the first individual champion from Princeton since Creighton Page in his senior season of 2005. After posting solid scores of 69, 70 and 72 on the par-70 course, Salazar was able to get into the playoff in part because Williamson had his worst round of the weekend at +3 Sunday afternoon.
Both were tied at the end of 54 holes, and the two went out to the 18th and 10th holes, matching scores each time. On the next hole, the ninth, Williamson bettered Salazar for the title.
As a team, Princeton finished fifth. Columbia won the title at +10, with Penn right behind at +11, Dartmouth at +16, Yale at +18 and Princeton at +24 in the top five. Harvard at +28, Cornell at +41 and Brown at +50 completed the team scoring.
Here are Princeton's individual scores:
