Track & Field Heads to NYC For Some Saturday Night Fever

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/28/10) - The Princeton track and field teams will compete at the NY Road Runners Saturday Night at The Armory II, on Saturday, Jan. 30 at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
The Tigers will get a chance to see where they are at in the Ivies with Columbia and Cornell competing. Other participating teams include: Albany, Army, UCONN, Delaware State, Morgan State, Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, Virginia and Villanova.Senior Reilly Kiernan and junior Sarah Cummings of the women's team will head to the University of Washington to compete in an invitational. The pair will run the 5000-meter with hopes to qualify for the NCAAs in that event. The women's 5000-meter run will be held on Friday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m., PT., with 24 runners in two heats.
The women's team is coming off of a six-event win from the Princeton Relays. Junior Emma Ruggiero won the weight throw reaching 16.19 meters, while classmate KC Wade cleared 1.65 meters to win the high jump. Freshman Tory Worthen captured the pole vault with a vault of 3.85 meters, while fellow rookie Lauren Zumbach posted a winning time of 5:14.82 in the mile. Sophomore Alex Banfich finished the 10,000-meter run in 2:57.08 to take top honors and contributed to the team's win in the DMR with a time of 11:52.44.
The men's team won seven events at its last meet the Princeton Relays and had two athletes reach NCAA Provisional Standards. Junior Dion Lehman won the long jump at 7.38 meters, while senior Justin Frick took top honors in the high jump clearing 2.15 meters, both meeting the provisional mark. Sophomore David Slovenski reached 5.00 meters to win the pole vault, while classmate Ivan Charbonneau sprinted to 6.94 seconds to take top honors in the 60-meter dash. Junior Kyle Soloff ran a 4:09.01 mile, with freshman Russell Dinkins ran 1:53.37 to win the 800 and freshman Nathan Mathabane running 2:26.49 in the 10,000.
