Cross Country Hosts Invite; Heads to Pre-Nationals

The Princeton cross country teams will host the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 16. The races will be held on the Tigers' home course, West Windsor Fields.
The men's 8k will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 11:15 a.m.
Competing teams include: Boston College (men), Columbia, George Mason (women), Haverford, Iona, UMBC, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, NJIT, NYIT, Penn (men), South Carolina (women), St. Joseph's, Stony Brook (men), Texas (men) and Xavier.
Three ranked men's teams will run the course. Iona is ranked 18th in the USTFCCCA poll and Texas is 29th. Haverford is sixth in the Division III poll.
Texas won the men's race last year, followed by Princeton in second and St. Joseph's in third. Princeton's Brian Leung won the race at 24:54.80 with Donn Cabral second at 25:07.30.
Columbia won the women's race, followed by South Carolina in second and St. Joseph's in third. Suzanne Gabriel of UMBC won the race at 23:15.70, followed by unattached runner Annick Lamar at 23:30.70. Princeton's top two finishers were Alexis Mikaelian 13th at 23:57.90 and Abby Hewitt 22nd at 24:21.60.
Pre-National Info
Both Princeton teams will send its top group to Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., that same day. The women will run in the 6k blue race at 11 a.m., while the men will run the 8k blue at 12:10 p.m.
Last year the Princeton women finished third in the women's race with All-America Liz Costello '10 leading the team with a sixth-place finish. Sarah Cummings and Ashley Higginson placed 19th and 25th respectively and Alex Banfich was the Tigers' fifth runner.
The Princeton men are ranked No. 12 in the USTFCCCA National poll and are first in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Princeton women are No. 15 in the nation and third in the regional poll.
