Hollimon Rewrites Record as Men's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/11/10) - Junior Austin Hollimon already owns the Princeton record in the 300-meter dash but that didn't stop him from outdoing himself. Hollimon ran a 33.68, besting himself by .20 seconds, as the men's track & field team opened the indoor season hosting the New Year's Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11.
Giving Hollimon chase was freshman Tom Hopkins. Hopkins would take second with a time of 33.82. Junior Kashif Smith was fifth in the event at 35.75, but won the 60-meter dash for the Tigers.
After being the only sprinter to run under 7.00 in the preliminary round, Smith was one of four Princeton runners, eight total to qualify for the final. Smith outdid his 6.97 time in the prelims by clocking in at 6.91 in the finals. Junior Ivan Charbonneau ran a 7.07, freshman Brian Mills a 7.10 and sophomore Jason Reagor a 7.17
Sophomore Richard Sheldon was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 8.25.
Freshman Damon McLean won the long jump in his first time out on the track as a collegian. McLean cleared 7.22 meters, while Hopkins was second at 7.17.
Junior Derek Hynes tied for second in the pole vault reaching 4.80 meters. His mark was the best of any collegiate athlete as the top two marks were set by unattached athletes.
Speaking of unattached athletes, Princeton alum Justin Frick made an appearance at today's meet. Frick finished second in the high jump clearing 2.07 meters. Freshman Imar Jarrett was Princeton's top jumper, taking sixth with a mark of 1.90.
Senior George Abyad was third in the shot put, throwing to 16.18 meters, with junior Patrick Park reaching 15.57 meters to finish fourth.
Princeton will compete against Navy on Saturday, Jan. 8 in a dual in Annapolis, Md.
