Men's Track & Field Earns Top Billing in Regional Team Index

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/3/10) - The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the first Regional Team Index on Monday, Feb. 1 and Princeton is ranked No. 1 in the region.
The Princeton men's track and field team earned top billing in the Mid-Atlantic Region this week earning 317 points, more than 32 points higher than second-place Penn State. Georgetown was third, followed by Navy, Bucknell, UMES and Rutgers.Based on last week's results 21 members of the team ranked in the top 10 in the region in their respective events. Sophomore Donn Cabral ranked as the top 3000-meter runner. Ranking second in the region are sophomore Austin Hollimon in the 400, junior Dion Lehman in the long jump and senior Justin Frick in the high jump. Placing third in the region were junior Mark Amirault in the 3000, senior Ian Fox in the high jump, sophomore David Slovenski in the pole vault, and senior Eric Plummer in the shot put.
The Regional Team Index uses data provided by Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for only the 2010 indoor season and is a reflection of a team's all-around strength. The regional team index is scored using the current national-team ranking formula as if it were separate regional championships across the country.
The Tigers will compete at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup on the campus of Penn State this weekend, Feb. 5-6.
