Freshman Schwagler Named EIVA Player Of The Week
March 15, 2010 | Men's Volleyball
Freshman Pat Schwagler, whose 31 kills guided the Princeton men's volleyball team to a 3-2 comeback victory over Springfield, has been named the EIVA Player of the Week.
Schwagler guided the Tigers on their second consecutive come-from-behind victory with the best performance by any Princeton player this season. The freshman outside from Orchard Park, N.Y., led the Tigers in both kills (31) and digs (13). He hit .440 in the match and added four blocks, including a key one late in the fifth to help Princeton take control.
For the season, Schwagler is averaging 3.81 kills per set and leads all non-middles with a .337 hitting percentage. His recent strong play has helped Princeton to 3-2 wins over Saint Francis, Juniata and Springfield; that run moved Princeton from sixth to second in the EIVA Tait Division.
"I am really proud of what Pat has been able to accomplish in the past three weeks," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "Pat's attention to detail and focus in practice has increased dramatically, and has had a direct result in his match performance. The exciting thing is that I think we have only scratched the surface of what Pat can do."
Princeton is off until March 26, when it takes on reigning EIVA champion Penn State at 7 p.m. in Happy Valley.
