Worthen Wins Pole Vault and Three Record Personal Bests at Elite Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/1/10) - Freshman Tory Worthen won the pole vault as Princeton hosted its final track & field meet before the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Saturday, May 1 at Weaver Stadium.
Worthen cleared 3.85 meters to capture first-place honors. Teammate Lauren Tauscher was second reaching 3.50 meters, her best mark of the season.
Junior Emma Ruggiero took second in the hammer throw throwing to 55.52 meters. Sophomore Alyssa Pehmoeller reached 46.63 in the event to finish in fifth place.
In the jumps, senior Aundeah Kearney reached 5.57 meters in the long jump to finish in fourth place, while junior Bianca Williams launched herself to 11.74 meters to take fifth in the triple jump.
Out on the track, freshman Lauren Lewis destroyed her personal best in the 400-meter hurdles. She clocked in a 1:02.70, two seconds faster than her best time of 1:04.49. Her time placed her third in the event. Junior Lauren Barber posted a season-best time of 14.89 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish in fifth place.
Freshman Melissa Zajdel took second place in the 400-meter dash finishing the lap in 59.01, the best time for her this season. Also taking second-place was freshman Mel Newbery in the steeplechase. Newbery completed her first collegiate steeplechase in 11:12.67.
Freshmen Greta Feldman and Abby Hewitt placed fourth in their respective events. Feldman clocked in at 2:12.04 in the 800 to set a new personal best, and Hewitt ran the 3000 in 10:09.98, matching her personal best.
Princeton will try to complete the Ivy League trifecta next weekend when it hosts the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. The Tigers won the cross country and indoor track & field titles this season. The program has earned the trifecta one time, in 1980-81.
