PRINCETON (1/26/11) - The Princeton women's basketball team jumps right into the Ivy League season after 24 days off, for finals and semester break. The Tigers travel to Brown on Friday, Jan. 28 and Yale on Saturday, Jan. 29. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
The games will be webstreamed for a fee. Fans can also follow the action for free by listening to Princeton's Derek Jones broadcast courtside and follow along with live stats.
The Tigers last played on January 4, when they defeated Penn 56-45. Princeton is 12-3 overall and is 4-3 when playing away from home. They have the fourth longest conference win streak in the nation that stands at 20. The Tigers average 70.7 points per game and hold teams to 55.5 points, a +15.2 scoring margin. The team is shooting 43.9 percent overall, 40.6 percent from long range and 71.4 percent from the line. Senior Addie Micir is the team's leading scorer, averaging 13.1 points per game. She leads the league in three-pointer made, with 45, and is also the league's top free-throw shooter hitting 92.5 percent of her shots, missing just three of 40. Micir adds 3.6 rebounds per game and is second on the team in assists with 43. Sophomore Devona Allgood is second in scoring and is the league's best shooter scoring over 54 percent of her shots taken. She averages 11.9 points per game and is the team's top rebounder with 6.7 boards per game. Allgood also leads the team in blocks with 18. Second on the team in blocks is junior Laura Edwards with 14. Edwards adds 11.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game and has 38 assists and 18 steals. Sophomore Lauren Polansky leads the team in both assists and steals with 45 and 28, respectively. She adds 4.4 rebounds per game.
Princeton holds a 34-29 edge over Brown in the all-time series, which began in 1974. The Tigers have won the last nine meetings, dating back to the final game of the 2005-06 season. Brown's last win was a 49-47 game on Feb. 4, 2006.
Brown is looking to snap a five-game losing streak and is 4-12 overall. The team is 0-2 in the league after dropping two games to travel partner Yale and are 2-5 when playing at home. The Bears average 56.4 points per game, a -6.5 scoring margin, as their opponents average 62.9. Brown is shooting 35.0 percent overall, 70.6 percent from the free-throw line and 29.7 from long range. The Bears have two players scoring in double digits, Sheila Dixon and Hannah Passafuime. Dixon averages 11.1 points per game and is the team's leading rebounder with 6.3 boards per game. She leads the team in assists with 41 and is second in steals with 29. Passafuime contributes 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. Starters Lauren Clarke, Lindsay Nickel and Aileen Daniels average over 8.5 points per game, apiece. The bench only adds 14 percent of the team's points (128/902). Clarke has a team-high 33 steals, while Daniels is the team's top blocker with six. Daniels is the player you don't want to foul, as she has missed just four of her 29 shots. Dixon, Passafuime, Clarke and Nickel all have no problem shooting the three, with Clarke have the best percentage, at 34.2.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Yale, 43-30, playing the Elis more times than any other opponent. The Tigers have won the last three meetings including a 65-44 win in New Haven last February. Yale is the first Ivy League opponent Princeton has ever played, first meeting in 1973 with the Tigers taking a 42-40 game.
After starting the season 1-7, Yale has won five of its last eight games, highlighted by a 91-85 win over Florida State at home. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in the league, defeating Brown twice, and is 6-10 overall and 4-3 at home. Yale averages 62.8 points and allowed 67.4 points per game. The team's field goal percentage stands at 37, while it shoots 69.6 percent from the stripe and 29.6 from behind the arc. Megan Vasquez and Mady Gobrecht are both in double digits in scoring at 13.6 and 11.8, respectively. Freshman Janna Graf is third on the team with 9.8 points, followed by Michelle Cashen with 8.9. Cashen leads the team on the glass with 6.5 rebounds per game, followed by Gobrecht's 5.8 per game. The fifth starter, Aarica West is the team leader in assists with 63 and steals with 28, and adds 4.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
