D'Amato Has Strong First Day at R.I. Tournament

Princeton junior Bernie D'Amato fired an even-par 71 to stand one shot off the lead midway through The Classic at Shelter Harbor in Charlestown, R.I.
Dartmouth's James Pleat shot a 70 in Saturday's opening round, one shot ahead of D'Amato and Connecticut's Matthew Dziubina. Pleat, along with a 72 shot by teammate Peter Williamson, has led Dartmouth to a seven-shot lead over the 15-team field. Princeton stands in a three-way tie for eighth place with one round to play Sunday.
Behind D'Amato, Princeton's Evan Harmeling is tied for 27th at 6-over 77, while Greg Jarmas is tied for 50th at 9-over 80 and Rob Owen rounded out the scoring four with his 11-over 62. Chase Woodsum was Princeton's fifth with a 17-over 88, and Patrick Wasserman, playing as an individual, shot a 16-over 87.
