Ritchie Joins Victoria of the ECHL
March 16, 2011 | Men's Ice Hockey
Ritchie becomes the fourth member of Princeton's eight-member senior class to sign professionally, joining fellow defensemen Taylor Fedun and Matt Godlewski, as well as forward Matt Arhontas. Godlewski and Arhontas have already appeared in ECHL games, while Fedun signed an NHL contract with Edmonton for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, but will play for the team's AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City this season.
Ritchie played in 106 games on the Princeton blue line and contributed five goal and 26 assists for 31 games over his four-year career. Ritchie had a career-high of 12 points as senior, scoring one goal and added 11 assists in 29 games. Ritchie was an ECAC Rookie of the Week once as a freshman and is a three-time ECAC All-Academic Team member. He has been Princeton's nominee for the ECAC Student-Athlete of the Year the last two years and was a finalist this year.
Ritchie is now the eighth Princeton player to appear in the ECHL this season, joining Arhontas (Reading), Godlewski (Trenton), Zane Kalemba (Elmira, Reading, Stockton), Mark Magnowski (Bakersfield), Daryl Marcoux (Stockton), Jody Pederson (Elmira, Stockton) and Dustin Sproat (Cincinnati). He is also the 17th Tiger to play professionally during the 2010-11 season. A full list is available here.
