Tigers Win Three as Men's Track & Field Competes at USF

TAMPA, Fla. (3/19/11) - The Princeton men's track & field team opened the 2011 outdoor season at the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida on Friday, March 18.
The Tigers continued right where they left off in the indoor season.
Junior David Slovenki won the pole vault clearing 5.30 meters (17-4.50). Teammate Derek Hynes was sixth at 4.75 (15-7).
Coming off a success indoor season with the weight throw, senior Craig Pearce picked right up with the hammer. He won the event throwing to 60.45 meters (198-04), over 14 feet further than the next competitor, who reached 184-01. Freshman Jake Taylor was eighth in the event with a throw of 42.93 (140-10).
Freshman Damon McLean set a personal best in the long jump as he reached 7.28 (23-10.75), 2.5 inches further than his previous best. His mark ranked him second in the field.
Sophomore Russell Dinkins won the 400 with a personal record 46.95, improving on his previous best by nearly a second. Senior Mike Eddy was right behind Dinkins in second place at 47.26.
Freshman Tom Hopkins finished in the top 10 in three events. He was ninth in the long jump at 6.74 (22-1.50), eighth in the 100 at 10.95 and seventh in the 200 at 21.65.
Also in the jumps, junior Garner McCloud took third in the triple reaching 13.71 (44-11.75), while freshman Omar Jarrett placed seventh in the high jump clearing 1.90 (6-2.75)
In the discus, senior George Abyad placed fifth with a throw of 50.44 (165-06), while junior Patrick Park finished ninth at 43.96 (144-03).
In the hurdles, senior Adam Thayer placed second in the 110-meter hurdles clocking in at 14.86, while sophomore Richard Sheldon was fourth at 14.94. And in the 400-meter hurdles, junior Nilan Schnure placed eighth at 55.50
The men's distance corps will head to the Stanford Invitational on March 25, while the team will come together for the first time this season on April 1-2 when it hosts the Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Stadium.
