Mulroy Named Princeton Athlete of the Week; Ford Takes Ivy Rookie Honor
April 05, 2011 | Baseball
Mulroy played an important role in the Princeton baseball team's four-game sweep of its Ivy opening weekend. Mulroy batted .353 in the four-game sweep of Brown and Yale and drove in 10 of Princeton's 32 runs over the weekend. He also scored five of his own as he had hits in all four games. Mulroy homered twice during the weekend and now leads the team with five this season. He also has a team-best 24 RBIs and swiped two of his team-high six bases over the weekend. His most important hit came with the bases loaded in the seventh inning of a tie game against Yale in Sunday's nightcap when he cleared the bases with a triple to give Princeton the lead and the win.
Ford was strong for the Tigers both on the mound and at the plate. The freshman got his first career win in Sunday's first game when he pitched all seven innings for his second complete game. Ford scattered six hits and had a shutout going until Yale scored in its final at-bat. He also fanned five batters in the start. Ford was also a presence at the plate over the week with six hits in 19 at-bats going back to Wednesday's win at Seton Hall. Ford hit .316 over the week with a double, triple and four RBIs.
Mulroy, Ford and the Tigers return to action on Tuesday afternoon with a non-league game at Rutgers. Princeton resumes its Ivy slate this coming weekend with doubleheaders at Harvard and Dartmouth.
