Ivy Champion Field Hockey Welcomes Class of 2018: Meet Ryan McCarthy
June 02, 2014 | Field Hockey
After the 2013 season yielded another Ivy League championship trophy and NCAA Elite Eight appearance, the Princeton field hockey team will welcome five student-athletes to join the Tigers for the 2014 campaign.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Class of 2018,” said head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn. “They are a group of young women who thrive in competitive environments and have proven that they have the will and determination to rise to both the academic and athletic challenges inherent in the Princeton experience."
"They separated themselves during the recruiting process by their close alignment to the values of our program and a clear passion for all things Tiger Field Hockey. We are excited to see their talents unfold in the years to come,” Holmes-Winn added.
Princeton field hockey will announce each member of the Class of 2018 individually, so be sure to tune into GoPrincetonTigers.com over the next two weeks to meet the newest additions to the program.
The third member of the incoming class to be introduced is midfielder Ryan McCarthy from Madison, N.J.
McCarthy comes to Princeton as a four-year varsity starter at Oak Knoll. During her decorated high school career, McCarthy accumulated four county championships, three state titles and a Tournament of Champions crown.
Individually, McCarthy garnered praise on the all-conference team in each of her four seasons. A three-time first-team All-State (2010, 2011, 2013) performer, she was twice named the Union County Player of the Year (2012, 2013). Also a second-team All-America selection in 2012, McCarthy picked up first-team laurels in 2013.
Holmes-Winn on McCarthy
"Ryan is a gutsy performer who thrives in high pressure, high tempo environments. She sets the bar with her unrelenting work rate, will to win and capacity to elevate those around her. Ryan impresses me with her ability to see and create opportunities before any one else on the pitch has even conceived of the possibilities. Her work ethic, passion for the game and easy off-field nature will add a great deal to our team."
