Princeton's McCarthy Named Ivy League Field Hockey Player of the Week
November 10, 2015 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – One day after being named to the 2015 All-Ivy second team, Ryan McCarthy was named the conference's field hockey Player of the Week.
With Princeton and Penn knotted at 1-1 last Saturday, McCarthy netted the game-winning goal just 2:35 into the overtime period. Making a run toward the cage, McCarthy batted a Sophia Tornetta centering pass out of the air and into the Quakers' cage to seal the Tigers' victory.
Claiming the Ivy title outright, Princeton secured its 11th-straight NCAA Tournament berth. Factoring into the scoring in nine of the team's games this season, McCarthy ranks third on the squad in points (18) with seven goals and four assists.
McCarthy and the Tigers open NCAA play on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Syracuse, N.Y. against No. 7 Maryland.
