PRINCETON, N.J. (4/10/15) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team heads into the final conference stretch, and looks to stay on top of the Ivy League standings, as it visits Cornell on Saturday, April 11. Game time is at 1 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is coming off of an 18-10 loss at No. 1 Maryland on Wednesday night. The Tigers led the Terrapins at halftime, the only team in the nation to have led the undefeated Terps at the intermission. Overall, the Tigers are 8-3 on the season and ranked No. 14 in the latest IWLCA poll. Princeton sits atop the Ivy League standings, along with Penn, with matching 3-0 records. Sophomore Olivia Hompe leads the team in scoring with 29 goals and 11 assists for 40 points. Senior Erin Slifer is one point back with 23 goals and 16 assists, after her six-point effort in College Park. Junior Stephanie Paloscio chips in 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists, while senior Erin McMunn has 23 points in nine games - playing limited minutes the last two games. Sophomore Anna Doherty and junior Anya Gersoff are also in double digits in scoring with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The pair are the leaders around the center circle with 42 combined draws (34%). Doherty is also the team leader in caused turnovers with 10, while Slifer adds nine and a team-best 19 ground balls. Sophomore Ellie DeGarmo is 7-3 in goal and has a 9.91 goals against average and a .459 save percentage. Senior Annie Woehling has played in three games, has an 8.99 GAA, a .364 save percentage and three caused turnovers.
THE SERIES
Princeton owns a 33-4 advantage in the all-time series with Cornell. The Tigers have won the last three meetings, which includes two games from last year. Princeton won a 10-7 overtime game on March 29 and a 12-5 game in the Ivy League semifinals on May 2. Cornell's last win was a 13-12 regular-season game in 2012. Senior Erin McMunn has 18 points in four games, while senior Erin Slifer has seven. Senior Annie Woehling is 2-1 against the Big Red.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is 8-3 on the season and receiving votes in both national polls this week. The votes come after Cornell defeated No. 13 Stanford 15-7 in Stanford. The Big Red dropped a 10-9 overtime game at Dartmouth this past Saturday - marking Dartmouth's first win of the season. The loss dropped Cornell into third place in the Ivy League standings, at 3-1. Cornell has the best scoring offense in the league, averaging 14.82 goals per game, with the league's leading scorer Amie Dickson taking charge with 46 points on 22 goals and 24 assists. Dickson leads the team in three supplemental stat categories, with 38 draw controls, 22 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Lindsay Toppe is the team's leading goal scorer with 33 tallies to go along with seven helpers. Emily Tripodi and Catherine Ellis each have 30+ points, with 38 and 35, respectively. Renee Poullott has played all but 15 minutes in goal this season. She has a 8.02 GAA and a .434 save percentage.
