The Princeton women's cross country team races at the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional this Friday, Nov. 11 in University Park, Pa.
The women's 6k race will be at noon. The top two teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA championship meet, which will be held Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Four ranked teams will race for those two spots, including: No. 9 Penn State, No. 21 Villanova, Georgetown, No. 24 Penn and, No. 27 West Virginia. Bucknell is receiving votes.
Princeton has claimed the regional title four times (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) since the Regional races began in 2005. Villanova has also won four times, Georgetown twice and Penn State twice including a victory last year.
Other squads competing include Delaware, Duquesne, George Washington, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola, Marshall, Maryland, UMES, Monmouth, Navy, NJIT, Pitt, Rider, Robert Morris, Rutgers, St. Francis (Pa.), Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, Towson and UMBC.
Additionally, the top four runners on non-qualifying teams will earned at-large bids to the NCAAs.
Second-Team All-Ivy League harrier Alexandra Markovich will lead the Tigers at Penn State. She has been the Tigers top runner all season and was eighth at Heps two weeks ago. Scoring positions 2-5 are wide open with juniors Melissa Reed and Melinda Renuart being in the mix after being steady scorers this season. Sophomore Alie Fordyce, Allie Klimkiewicz, Brighie Leach have also shown scoring potential, as have freshmen Ally Rome and Rachel Granovsky.
