Tigers No. 13 In Final CWPA Varsity Poll

CWPA Varsity Poll
PRINCETON, N.J. –The Princeton Tigers finished No. 13 in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, the league announced today.
Head coach Luis Nicolao's squad went 18-9 this season and captured third place at the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament. Freshman Sean Duncan was picked as the Rookie of the Tournament after posting back-to-back two-goal outings in the Tigers' contests. For the season, Duncan finished with 49 goals, a team-best 61 drawn ejections and was named the NWPC Rookie of the Year.
Matt Payne had one of the greatest seasons in program history as he was the only player to ever score at least 60 goals and dish out 50 assists in a year.He was named first team all-conference tournament and first team all-conference.
Making the second team All-NWPC Tournament squad, sophomore Ryan Wilson had nine points during Princeton's third place finish. Wilson posted two tallies and three assists in the team's 14-13 loss to Harvard and returned the next day with four assists and four steals vs. St. Francis-Brooklyn. He ended the 2016 season with 34 goals, 46 assists, 36 steals and 27 drawn ejections.
Cal was selected as the No. 1 team in the varsity poll after rallying for an 11-8 victory in the national championship game over USC. UCLA, Pacific and Stanford wrap up the top five. Harvard, the NWPC champion, finished ninth while Brown was 12th.
