PRINCETON, N.J. (4/16/16) - The Princeton men's track & field team dominated the 2016 Princeton Outdoor Invitational claiming 245 points. The Tigers finished 128.5 points ahead of second-place team Monmouth.
Sophomore Carrington Akosa earned 20 points on his own by winning both the 100 and 200 with PRs in both events. He clocked a 10.67 in the 100 and was followed by freshman Charles Volker at 10.88 and Josh Billington at 10.98 as the trio picked up 16 points. Seventeen more points came in the 200 with Akosa's win of 21.36 and a third-place time of 22.10 by sophomore Joshua Freeman. Billington added a point with a sixth-place time of 22.42.
Senior Daniel McCord won the 400 as the only sprinter to round the oval in less than 49 seconds at 48.95. Freshman Cole Bransford was third at 49.49 and junior Bryat Switzer was fourth at 49.75.
The 800 brought the Tigers 22 points as sophomore Noah Kauppila and senior Luke Brahm went 1-2 with times of 1:52.24 and 1:52.55. Sophomore Garrett O'Toole was fourth at 1:54.91 while classmate Jared Lee was fifth at 1:55.58.
Eighteen points came from a 3-4-5 finish in the 1500. Sophomore Zachary Albright was the runner-up with a time of 3:58.06 and just six hundredths of a second back was freshman Jeremy Spiezio at 3:58.12. Freshman Steven Sum crossed in 3:59.14.
In the 3k, sophomore Charles Stahl posted a time of 8:39.22 to take second while classmate Rob Stone was third at 8:48.23. Junior Jack Leahey was fifth at 8:53.48 as the Tigers claimed 16 points in the event.
Senior Greg Caldwell won the 110-meter hurdles and freshman Sebastian Silveira took fifth. After running a 14.61 in the prelims, Caldwell did even better in the finals with a 14.40. Silveira improved upon his prelim time of 15.65 with a 15.38 in the finals.
In the 400 hurdles, Princeton nabbed 18 points as junior Greg Leeper was the runner-up with a time of 52.53, followed by sophomore Spencer Long in third place at 53.54 and freshman Christian Fryer-Davis fourth at 54.06. Leeper earned another six points in the long jump with a third-place mark of 7.09 (23-3.25). Freshman Stefan Amokwandoh was fifth with a jump of 6.74 (22-1.50).
Junior Xavier Bledsoe won the high jump as he cleared 2.05 (6-8.75) while both sophomore Colin Reilly and freshman Andrew Diehl reached 1.94 (6-4.25).
After taking second in the shot put yesterday, sophomore Mitchel Charles claimed the win today in the discus. He was the only thrower to get beyond 50 meters as he hit 50.46 (165-7). Junior Jared Bell was second at 48.91 (160-5) and yesterday's shot put winner junior Chris Cook was fourth at 47.36 (155-4).
The Tigers host the annual Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend at Weaver Stadium.
