Princeton Cross Country Teams Both in National Rankings
October 16, 2018 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
The Princeton cross country teams can claim something no other Ivy League school can. Both the men's and women's teams are ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) polls.
No other school in the Ivy League has had both programs in the top 30 this season.
The Princeton men are ranked No. 29 this week after winning the Princeton Invitational last Friday. Junior All-America Conor Lundy dominated the race finishing at least eight seconds in front of any other runner with an 8k time of 23:55.3. The Tigers are also the top-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Princeton continues to prepare for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship, which will be held here in Princeton, next Saturday, Oct. 27. The Tigers are the defending Heps champions, winning last year with the best score since 1987. In all Princeton has won the championship 19 times - five more than the next best Ivy school.
The Princeton women are No. 30 in this week's poll after splitting its squad last weekend, sending its top squad to compete at the Penn State National Open. The Tigers beat No. 27 ranked Utah and finished in front of Mid-Atlantic foe Georgetown and and Ivy League squads from Dartmouth, Penn, Cornell and Brown. Princeton is ranked No. 3 in Mid-Atlantic Region, behind No. 8 Villanova and No. 13 Penn State.
The Tigers have won more Ivy League Heps titles than any other women's program - a total of nine championships. Last year the Tigers claimed fourth place with the individual champion Gabi Forrest.
