Henley Win, U23 Qualification, Highlight Strong Sunday For Ivy Champion Women's Rowing Team
July 08, 2018 | Women's Rowing - Open
Emily Kallfelz and Hannah Scott were in the same boat that earned a third straight Ivy League championship for the Princeton women's rowing team during the second Sunday of May. On the second Sunday of July, they didn't even share a hemisphere, but they both posted another championship performance.
Kallfelz won the U-23 Women's 1x Final at the Senior Trials on Lake Mercer, which clinched her place at the upcoming U-23 World Championships, which will take place July 25-29 in Poland. Kallfelz won in comfortable fashion, as her time of 7:48.33 topped the second-place finish of Elizabeth Sharis by nearly 10 seconds. Teammate Emerson Solms, another member of the Ivy championship boat, nearly joined Kallfelz on the U.S. team, but she placed second by less than two seconds in the Women's 2x final.
Kallfelz could learn soon of other Princeton teammates who will join her in Poland, as several official boats have not been named for either Team USA or other international crews. Several Tigers are expected to be in the mix for those boats.
Meanwhile, Scott put her finishing touch on a winning week at the Henley Royal Regatta, as she joined teammate Heidi Long to win the Hambleden Pairs title by 3/4 of a length Sunday. Scott, the lone freshman in the Ivy champion Princeton 1V — which placed 5th at the NCAA Championships — had a comfortable win in the semifinal, but her boat was pushed to the limit during its championship effort Sunday.

Several Tigers joined Scott at Henley, including the IRA silver medalist Princeton lightweight 8+, which pushed IRA heavyweight champion Yale to the limit in a thrilling quarterfinal. Two former heavyweights met in the Grand Challenge final; Tim Masters '15 and the Australian 8+ defeated Tom George '18 and the British 8+ by 3/4 of a length in the final.
