Princeton Athletics Receives Anonymous Gift For Videoboard At Class of 1952 Stadium
7/7/2021
Princeton’s Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium has added a state-of-the-art videoboard, increasing the game-day experience for all who are part of the Princeton Lacrosse programs.
Located at midfield opposite the team benches and fan seating, the largest videoboard at a lacrosse facility in the Ivy League stands 28-feet tall and is 44-feet wide.
“Elevating the multimedia, video and in-game offerings across Princeton Athletics has been a key departmental priority and the installation of our new video board is a game-changer in that pursuit. We are thrilled that the donors were aligned fully with these priorities and for their tremendous generosity and support of Princeton Athletics and Princeton Lacrosse,” said Ford Family Director of Athletics, Mollie Marcoux Samaan ’91. “It is critical that Princeton Athletics continues to create environments where our student-athletes and coaches can thrive and develop while also providing best-in-class fan experiences.”
The videoboard was made possible through the generosity of anonymous donors to Princeton Lacrosse. With the addition of the board, Sherrerd Field at 1952 Stadium continues its standing as a true destination for college lacrosse fans. In 2020, a new AstroTurf playing surface was installed following new team rooms, concession areas, storage areas, and permanent rest rooms which were added in 2014. Recently, additional upgrades were made with the installation of several cameras mounted above the Press Box and playing surface to capture practice and game footage to streamline recording, analysis and streaming capabilities.
“We are extremely grateful for the continued support and generosity of our remarkable alumni base,” said men’s lacrosse head coach Matt Madalon. “What makes this gift so impactful is that it is something that can be shared by all who are part of the Princeton Lacrosse experience on gamedays. We take tremendous pride in Sherrerd Field being an elite lacrosse facility where our program is supported by passionate fans. This addition of a best-in-class videoboard echoes the championship-level standards we have as a program.”

Since opening in 1996, the facility has been home to six national championship teams and 27 Ivy League championship teams between the men’s and women’s programs. In addition, Sherrerd Field has hosted multiple NCAA Tournament events – including the 2004 NCAA women’s semifinals and national championship game – and four Ivy League Tournaments.
“We’re incredibly grateful for this gift that funded the largest videoboard in the Ivy League,” women’s lacrosse head coach Chris Sailer said. “This is yet another example of the generosity of our alumni and the passion they have for giving back to Princeton Lacrosse. The videoboard will have a huge positive impact on the game-day experience for players and fans, providing a level of excitement and spectator engagement like never before at 1952 Stadium.”
