May 02, 2023 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Maia Weintraub and Hadley Husisian each won gold at the April NAC in St. Louis, leading the current Tigers' medal haul at the event.
Weintraub won the Division I women's foil event atop a field of 104 fencers, knocking off top-seeded Lauren Scruggs 15-13 in the final. Sixth-seeded Weintraub and Scruggs had met just a month earlier in the NCAA semifinals, with Scruggs winning 15-9 and having to defeat two Tigers on the way to the NCAA title, winning that over runner-up May Tieu 15-7 in the final.
Husisian won the Division I women's épée competition atop a field of 120 in an all-Tiger final with alumna Katharine Holmes '17 as 17th-seeded Husisian defeated 14th-seeded Holmes 15-6. Husisian was an NCAA semifinalist in March in her NCAA Championships debut, falling to eventual champion Eszter Muhari 15-7 as Muhari also had to go through two Tigers to win the title, defeating Jessica Lin 15-10 in the final. Holmes won gold in the team épée competition at the April NAC with New York Athletic Club.
On the men's side, Nicholas Lawson and Tristan Szapary were bronze medalists in épée, Lawson both individually and with Szapary in the team competition with Fencers Club Gold.
