A Look Back at Princeton's Friendship Series Trip to Belfast
1/8/2024
In January 2024, the Princeton women's hockey team participated in the Friendship Series, the third edition of an event in Belfast, Northern Ireland, playing two games against Providence College of the Hockey East conference. Princeton won both games, extending ECAC Hockey's game win streak in the Friendship Series to four, providing the league's second consecutive sweep in the event.
Princeton's first three days in Belfast included practice, sightseeing, learning about Belfast's history and visiting an area primary school.
Friday came, and with it, the first of two Friendship Series games. Princeton took a 3-0 first-period lead over Providence and never looked back as Sarah Paul and Issy Wunder had two goals apiece in a 6-1 win.
Saturday's rematch played out differently, though it had the same result. Providence scored five minutes into the game and kept Princeton off the board for the first 30 minutes before Princeton scored on a Sarah Fillier breakaway to tie it midway through the third. Sarah Paul scored on a two-player advantage with two minutes to go in the game, and Princeton won 2-1. Fillier won Player of the Tournament honors, getting a point on six of Princeton's eight goals on the weekend.
