Baseball Closes Out Four-Game Set Against UNC-Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Princeton University baseball team dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader against the University of North Carolina-Greensboro to put the wraps on a four game set at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Falling 6-5 in eight innings in the first game of the twinbill, the Tigers suffered a 16-7 setback in the nightcap. With the losses, Princeton fell to 1-6 on the young season. The Orange and Black return to action on Mar. 13-15 against the University of Maryland.
UNC-GREENSBORO 6, PRINCETON 5 (8 innings)
The Spartans' Nick Chapman laced a walk-off single to left center in the bottom of the eighth to give UNCG a 6-5 extra inning win over Princeton.
Breaking through in the top of the first inning, Danny Hoy and Zack Belski belted back-to-back homers to stake the Tigers to an early advantage. The Spartans responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame, two of which coming on an Aaron Wright double.
Coming right back, Princeton pushed across a couple of runs in the top of the second. With two outs, Chad Powers drew a walk to start the rally. Danny Baer then singled to center before Billy Arendt doubled to right, clearing the bases. Putting the home team back on top, Zac MacAneney homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-4.
After three scoreless innings, the Tigers tied it in the top of the seventh. Putting runners on the corners with a Baer walk and an Arendt single, Hoy hit a ground ball to second, allowing the tying run to score.
Arendt and Hoy combined for three hits and four RBI, while Belski was 1-for-3 with a home run. Paul Tupper, Peter Owens and Baer accounted for the rest of Princeton's three hits.
Luke Strieber allowed five runs on six hits in two innings. Nick Brady took the loss, despite surrendering just one run on two hits in five innings of work.
UNCG 16, PRINCETON 7 (7 innings)
Building a 7-0 lead in the first two innings, UNCG cruised to a 16-7 seven-inning victory over Princeton in the nightcap.
Taking the loss, Cameron Mingo allowed seven runs on six hits in 1.1 innings. Tyler Foote gave up five runs (two earned) on two hits in 2.2 innings, while Kevin Thomsen surrendered four runs on two hits in 2.0 innings.
Danny Hoy was 3-for-5 from the plate with five RBI and three runs scored. Nick Hernandez, went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Paul Tupper and Peter Owens each finished 2-for-3. Billy Arendt, Andrew Christie, Zack Belski, Blake Thomsen and Danny Baer also recorded a base-knock as Princeton tallied 14 hits in the game.
Down 7-0, Princeton broke through in the third on a two-run Hoy homer. After UNCG tacked on five runs in the bottom of the frame, Princeton scored three runs in the fifth on another two-run Hoy home run and an Owens RBI single. In the top of the sixth, Hoy singled in another run, with Hernandez doubling in the Tigers' seventh and final tally later in the frame.
