Princeton No. 13 in Penn Montco/NFHCA Coaches' Poll; No. 12 In RPI

PRINCETON, N.J. – After a 3-2 overtime loss to then No. 20 Harvard, the Princeton Tigers fell to No. 13 in the Penn Montco/National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Coaches' Poll. The Tigers were No. 11 last week.

Trailing by two vs. Harvard, sophomore Sophia Tornetta got the Tigers on the board with 25:53 to go in the game. As the clock ticked near six minutes, the scoring prowess of senior captain Cat Caro came through as she deflected a shot by the Crimson goalie. Harvard's Kathleen Young scored one minute into overtime to give the road team the victory.

The Duke Blue Devils jumped to the No. 1 position in the coaches' poll with a victory over then No. 4 North Carolina. It was the Blue Devils' 11th win this year over a top-20 opponent. Syracuse also improved to No. 2 while Connecticut and Maryland tied for third. Maryland handed Connecticut its first loss in 42 regular season contests. North Carolina, Penn State, Louisville, Virginia, Delaware and Northwestern complete the top ten. With its victory over the Tigers, Harvard climbed to No. 16. Â

Duke also sits No. 1 in the NCAA RPI rankings followed by Syracuse, Maryland, North Carolina and Connecticut. Harvard is the top Ivy League team in the RPI at No. 10 while Princeton sits No. 12.

The Tigers make the trip to Cornell to finish the road portion of the 2016 schedule this weekend (12 p.m.). The game will be featured on the Ivy League Digital Network.
