USA Field Hockey Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Assistant coach Dina Rizzo will be inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame on November 19 at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, Va.
"I am honored and humbled to be recognized with an incredible class of inductees," said Rizzo. "I am extremly grateful for USA Field Hockey and everything they have done for our sport. I'd like to thank my teammates, coaches, friends and family for their support because without them, this achievement isn't possible."
The Tigers' assistant coach will be inducted with Antoinette Lucas, Manzar Iqbal, Carrie Lingo, Kelli James, Kris Fillat-Buchanan along with honorary members, Karen Collins, Roque Viegas, Allan Woods and the 1975 West Chester State National Championship Team.
Rizzo played for seven years on the United States national field hockey team, earning 157 international caps. She played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, two Olympic qualifying events, the 2006 World Cup and 2003 Pan American Games. She continued with USA Field Hockey after playing by volunteering with the U-21 national team and assisting with the Futures Elite Talent Development program in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Â
Once her playing career came to the end, Rizzo got into coaching spending time at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant coach, helping the Minutewomen to a top ten ranking in the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association poll, the highest ranking for the team in nine years. She also accrued time in the Ivy League with a year as an assistant at Harvard in 2009.
Â
The assistant coach then moved onto her alma mater, Maryland, where she was integral in creating game strategies, team practices and the recruiting process. She contributed to the development of 42 NFHCA Academic All-Americans, two Olympians, four national team members, 23 All-Americans, 28 all-conference members and two Honda Broderick winners.
Â
During her six seasons as the associate head coach at Maryland, the team won back-to-back national championships (2010-11), went to four Final Four appearances, won two ACC titles and two straight Big Ten regular season titles (2014-15). Last season, the Terrapins won the 2015 Big Ten Tournament and lost to Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Following the announcement of Carla Tagliente as head coach of the Tigers, Rizzo was hired at Princeton in July. The Tigers are currently 6-4 this season and 2-0 in the Ivy League.
