Bacskai, Caro and Tornetta Selected To U-21 USA Junior World Cup Team

PRINCETON, N.J. – Maddie Bacskai, Cat Caro and Sophia Tornetta will represent the U-21 United States National Field Hockey Team at the Women's Hockey Junior World Cup this November.

Janneke Schopman, head coach of the U-21 national team, announced the squad today. "I think we learned a lot of from the Junior Pan American Games and had a good summer of training, said Schopman, according to the USA Field Hockey release. "Every time we meet as a team, we're quick to get back into a rhythm. We don't have much time together on the pitch now until the start of the tournament, but the girls are doing everything they can to be in the best shape possible. We've grown a lot as a group and I have faith we'll be ready for the first game on Thursday, November 24th."

Bacskai, Caro and Tornetta are used to the national stage as they helped the U-21 squad to a silver medal at the Junior Pan American tournament in April. For Princeton, the trio has helped the Tigers to a 6-4 record and 2-0 Ivy League mark. Bacskai recently scored her first career goal in Princeton's 3-0 win over Yale. Caro is second on the team in goals (five) and points (12) while Tornetta has nine points in four games this season.

Princeton gets back in action on Friday at Columbia (6:30 p.m.) before No. 2 Duke comes to Bedford on Sunday (1 p.m.). The Duke game can be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network.
