espnW Release
PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Ashleigh Johnson is one of the 2016 espnW IMPACT25 honorees for the Woman of the Year consideration, the network announced today.
Johnson, who was recently the first water polo player to ever win the Women's Sports Foundation SportsWoman of the Year award, helped the United States women's water polo team to its second consecutive gold medal at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. In the team's six games in Rio, she allowed just 28 goals, made 51 saves and was named the tournament's top goalkeeper. Johnson was also the first ever African-American to make the U.S. national team.
In her time at Princeton, the Miami native has posted an 81-13 overall mark, turning away 1,062 of the 1,533 shots she has faced en route to a 0.693 save percentage for Princeton. Putting together three of the highest single-season save totals in program history, The 2015 Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Player of the Year is already the Tigers' career leader.
The winner of the espnW IMPACT25 Woman of the Year will be announced on Dec. 13. Princeton's 2017 season gets underway at the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown during the Super Bowl Weekend. (Feb. 4-5).
