BOX SCORE
BETHESDA, Md. – Behind junior Chad Powers' second career complete game shutout, the Princeton baseball team won its third straight game with a 4-0 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas at Shirley Povich Field on Sunday afternoon.
Powers scattered seven hits and struck out one hitter over nine innings. 18 of his 27 outs were ground balls. Sophomore Asher Lee-Tyson had 10 assists while junior Zack Belski had 16 putouts which is tied for the fourth most for a nine-inning game in program history. Belski also scored twice and had a hit. Freshmen Joseph Flynn hit his first collegiate home run with a two-run blast in the second frame.
Flynn's home run in the second inning started the scoring. After going 1-2-3 in the first frame, Powers induced back-to-back double plays in the second and third.
Belski and Flynn led off the Princeton half of the fourth with a walk and single before advancing on junior Paul Tupper's sacrifice bunt. Senior Danny Baer then ripped a base hit to left field to score Belski and Flynn to put the Tigers in front, 4-0.
After getting another double play in the fifth inning, Powers allowed a runner in scoring position in the sixth before a fielders' choice ended the threat. The Hoyas grounded into their fourth double play in the seventh inning and had just one base runner over their final two at-bats. Powers finished the complete game in an efficient 93 pitches.
Princeton's record improved to 5-7 overall while Georgetown dropped to 10-10. The Tigers' three-game winning streak is its longest since ending the 2014 season (Apr. 27-29, 2014).
