COMPLETE RESULTS
Princeton claimed six overall victories, including at least one for all four programs, to wrap up its 2017 fall racing season with a very successful performance at the 2017 Princeton Chase. The heavyweight men, open women, and lightweight women all claimed wins in the 8+ races, and the lightweight women won in a Chase-record time of 14:55.807.
The Tiger heavyweights, who placed in the Top 4 at both Sprints and IRAs in each of the last four years, defended their 2016 Princeton Chase title in a time of 12:32.476, which was a little more than four seconds faster than runner-up Dartmouth. Princeton had two boats in the Top 7 and three in the Top 11; its B boat finished seventh in 12:51.734, while the C finished in 12:58.360.
The two-time reigning Ivy League champion open women had a very strong effort Sunday morning, topping perennial powers Brown and Virginia on its way to a Chase title. The Tigers took the race in 13:57.833, which was almost 10 seconds faster than Brown. The Tiger B was one of only two B crews to finish in the overall Top 10 (8th, 14:32.007).
The lightweight women, building off medals at both Sprints and IRAs last spring, set a Princeton Chase record by winning in 14:55.807; that time topped runner-up Georgetown by nearly 16 full seconds.
"We've had a really solid fall of training, with the squad working really well together," head coach Paul Rassam said. "We have a bit more depth this year and I believe we can medal in each boat class at the IRAs in June, which would be a step up for us. The varsity eight we put out this weekend had three freshmen, three sophomores, two juniors and one senior cox. So you could say it's a boat for the future but we aren't super interested in waiting for the future, we are excited to see what we can do in the now."
The lightweight men, winners of the Head of the Charles last weekend, took third in one of the most tightly contested races on Lake Carnegie. Penn won in 12:46.602, just ahead of both Yale (12:49.289) and Princeton (12:49.678), while Navy wasn't far off that pace with a fourth-place finish in (12:50.734). It was reminiscent of how tightly contested the lightweight rowing field was last year.
The heavyweight, open and men's lightweight 4+ also won during the extended Chase competition. You can find all results by clicking the link above.
