PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers make the one-hour trip north to Seton Hall University to take on the Pirates Thursday evening at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J.
Check the links above with features on Bella Alarie, Courtney Banghart and an introduction to each class on the team. The second episode of the Court Report podcast with Banghart went live on Wednesday.
As for the game, here's five factors to watch out for…
- Bella Alarie – During a five-game stretch last December, Alarie had four outings with eight points or fewer and shot just 30.4 percent from the floor.
In the next game against Lipscomb on December 31st, Alarie dropped in 17 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out four assists in a comfortable 71-43 victory.
The Bethesda, Md. native would go on with 11 consecutive games of double-figure scoring, adding three double-doubles in that stretch. She finished with four of her final six games with at least 10 points as well including an impressive 17-point, 16-rebound performance in the Ivy League semifinal vs. Harvard (Mar. 11).
While the 2017 Ivy League Rookie of the Year has put out eye-popping stats, the sophomore has been a beacon of consistency in her 31 games as a Tiger. She has scored in double-figures 22 times and grabbed at least four rebounds in every game except for two.
She contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks against George Washington on Friday. Last year, she was incredible against Seton Hall with 26 points, 15 rebounds, six assists.
- Leslie Robinson – In her first two seasons, Robinson scored 109 career points and registered 118 rebounds.
It took until her 14th game in her junior year to double her career point total and she surpass her career rebound total four games later.
Not only was Robinson an added bonus in the scoring and rebounding department in 2016-17, she also led the team in assists (82). In six of her eight career double-doubles, the senior captain has had at least four assists including on Friday vs. George Washington.
- Princeton's Defense – Defense is always the name of the game for the Tigers as they have historically always been one of the top defenses in the country under head coach Courtney Banghart. During perhaps the most important stretch of Friday's contest, Princeton held George Washington without a basket for the first 6:28 of game action in the third quarter. During that time, the Tigers scored 14 straight points, taking a 47-30 lead. The Colonials would not get any closer than 17 the rest of the way.
- Seton Hall's Donnizha Fountain – The graduate transfer has been ridiculous for the Pirates in the team's two games, averaging 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds. For her performance, she was selected as the Big East Player of the Week. She snagged 22 points in just 15 minutes in the Pirates' victory over Saint Peter's and followed that with 18 points and 13 boards against Wake Forest.
- Creating turnovers – Seton Hall has been one of the best teams in the nation in creating turnovers in early going. The Pirates are third in total steals (33), 12th in turnover margin (14.5) and 16th in turnovers forced per game (28.0). Princeton turned the ball over 19 times against George Washington, leading to 13 points.
