PRINCETON, N.J. – After clinching the outright Ivy League title, the Princeton Tigers came in at No. 11 in the final Penn Montco/NFHCA Coaches' Poll, the organization announced.
It was Princeton's 25th Ivy League title and it's the 22nd trip to the NCAA Tournament. The last time that the Tigers did not play in at least the NCAA Play-In Game was in 2004.
Head coach Carla Tagliente's unit was all over the Ivy League awards yesterday, earning nine All-Ivy selections, tied for the second most in program history. The 2012 squad earned 10 All-Ivy selections. This season is the fifth time that the Tigers have had nine selections to the conference teams (1994, 1996, 2009, 2010).
Ryan McCarthy was honored as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, while Maddie Bacskai was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Julianna Tornetta as selected as the Ivy Co-Rookie of the Year while Tagliente earned Coach of the Year accolades.
Those three players were picked first-team All-Ivy and unanimous choices as well. Three more Tigers were second-team All-Ivy in MaryKate Neff, Sophia Tornetta and Elise Wong. Grace Baylis, Nicole Catalino and Clara Roth nabbed honorable mention All-Ivy.
After finishing the regular season undefeated (19-0), UConn was No. 1 in the Coaches' Poll, followed by Duke, Michigan and North Carolina. Harvard at No. 17 gives the Ivy League two teams in the poll.
Princeton (11-6, 7-0 Ivy) takes on No. 5 Virginia (15-4, 5-1 ACC) to open the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 2 p.m.
