Day 1 Results
Freshman Levy Nathan, senior Ben Schafer, and both 400 medley relays claimed victories for Princeton during the first day of the Big Al Open Friday at DeNunzio Pool. The trio of men's wins helped the Tigers move atop the team standings after the first day of competition, while the relay win helped the women move into third place.
WOMEN
Princeton opened with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, as the quartet of Isabel Reis, Maddy Veith, Lindsay Temple, and Monica McGrath finished in 1:33.19.
Freshman Courtney Tseng opened the individual events by taking 10th in the 500 in 4:51.63, and Reis followed with a runner-up finish in an exciting 200 IM final. Reis and Villanova junior Darby Goodwin both topped the field by more than 1.5 seconds; Goodwin held on for the win, but Reis dropped her prelim time by more than 3.5 seconds to finish in 2:00.57.
Veith was just edged out of the A final, but she came back in 23.65 to win the consolation final, and then she anchored a dominant 400 medley relay that won by more than three seconds. Freshman Stephanie Nelson led off the quartet, with classmate Jenny Ma teaming with both Reis and Veith to win in 3:40.94.
Brown, which had five swimmers in the three 50 free finals, ended Friday with 284 points, while Villanova holds second with 210 and Princeton is third with 154.
