The Tigers' offense started quickly, securing the first seven points of the game before Yale answered to tie the contest (7-7) with 5:56 to go in the stanza. Princeton jumped ahead with an 11-2 stretch (18-9) before the Bulldogs scored four at the end of the quarter to set the score at 18-13.
After the two teams exchanged buckets to begin the second frame, Princeton ripped off a 10-0 outburst to go in front, 30-15. The home squad couldn't get anything on the offensive end as it went 5:51 without a basket. The Tigers went into the locker room with a 34-22 lead. Alarie scored eight in the first half including this offensive scoop and score.
Down by 42-28 as the third quarter waned on, Yale tallied five consecutive to get the contest back to single digits (42-33) with 3:40 remaining. The Bulldogs got as close as eight before this trey from Weledji made the Ivy matchup 49-38 after three.
Yale's Tamara Simpson opened up the final stanza with a long-range bucket, but Princeton answered with the next 12 points, highlighted by a combined nine from Leslie Robinson and Vanessa Smith, to go up, 59-41, with 5:48 to go. Yale would not get closer than 16 the rest of the way as Princeton picked up its sixth straight victory. In the fourth frame, the Tigers were 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) while Yale was 2-of-12 (16.7 percent).
Roxy Barahman had a team-high 10 points for Yale. Princeton held Yale to just three three-pointers, its lowest total of the season. The Bulldog's 47 points is also its second worst offensive output this year. After scoring six baskets in the first 10 minutes, the home team had nine over the final three quarters.
Princeton now stands at 12-9 overall and 6-2 in the Ivy League while Yale is now 11-11 and 2-7 in the conference. The Tigers will finish their road trip at Brown tomorrow. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
