Alarie Selected For Eighth Ivy League Rookie of the Week Accolade
February 20, 2017 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – For the third consecutive week and eighth time this season, freshman Bella Alarie was picked as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Â
Alarie now is tied for the sixth most Rookie of the Week honors in Ivy League history. Her eight accolades are second in Princeton history behind Niveen Rasheed's nine in 2010. She shares this week's award with Cornell's Samantha Widmann.
Â
The freshman had another stat-filling day vs. Yale as she scored 13 points in only 23 minutes of game action while adding four rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists in the Tigers' 22-point victory on Friday.
Â
On Saturday vs. Brown, the Bethesda, Md., native recorded her fifth double-double of the season, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds along with three more blocks and two steals. With her very next block, she will become the team's all-time freshman leader in blocks for a single season.
Â
Alarie has scored double figures in 10 straight games. During that stretch, Princeton is 8-2 while she's averaging 14.6 points on 46.6 percent shooting from the field, 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Â
Head coach Courtney Banghart's team has won seven straight games and scored its 43rd Ivy League weekend sweep in its last 47 chances with victories over Yale and Brown. The Tigers will welcome Columbia (Feb. 24) and Cornell (Feb. 25) to Jadwin Gym this week. Tip-off for the Columbia game is scheduled at 7:00 p.m.
